Why Chinese Families Choose the OSSD
The Ontario Secondary School Diploma is a globally recognised credential — a steadier, more flexible route to the world's best universities.
Recognised worldwide
The OSSD is accepted for direct entry by universities across Canada, the US, the UK, Australia, Hong Kong and Singapore.
Continuous assessment, not one exam
Grades combine coursework and projects (70%) with a final evaluation (30%) — no single exam decides everything.
Possible IELTS / TOEFL waiver
After completing Ontario English courses such as ENG4U, some universities may waive language testing (policies vary by school).
Flexible, self-paced, rolling intake
Start any time and learn at your own pace, alongside sport, the arts or other commitments.
Apply with final grades
Apply with real final marks (not predicted scores); OSSD students are assessed as Group A applicants, the same as domestic Ontario students.
Officially inspected & trusted
Inspected by the Ontario Ministry of Education (BSID #665804). Transcripts and diplomas are official documents.
Credit Transfer for Students from China (PLAR)
Students who have completed part of high school in China may earn equivalent credits through Ontario's Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR), shortening the time to complete the OSSD.
Submit transcripts
Provide official transcripts and proof of study (with certified English translation if needed).
School verification
The school verifies the issuing school, grades completed and subject results.
Principal assessment
The principal evaluates prior learning and determines the equivalent credits that may be recognised.
Personalised plan
You receive an individual OSSD plan listing recognised credits, remaining Ontario credits and graduation requirements.
Complete courses online
Complete the remaining Ontario courses and supervised final evaluations on our platform.
Records & diploma
Credits are recorded on the Ontario Student Transcript (OST); the OSSD is issued upon graduation.
Important: the number of credits is decided only after the principal's assessment. Recruiters cannot guarantee a specific credit count, graduation date or university admission in advance.
